UK-IPN at the NW GMSA Pharmacogenomics Event: Bridging Research, Regulation, and Real-World Adoption

13/11/2025

On 13 November 2025, the UK Industry Pharmacogenomics Network (UK-IPN) attended the 4th National Pharmacogenomics (PGx) and Medicines Optimisation Network of Excellence event, hosted by the North West Genomic Medicine Service Alliance in Manchester.

The event brought together NHS leaders, researchers, and industry stakeholders to explore how pharmacogenomics is being integrated into clinical pathways—from early research to system-wide adoption.

The programme highlighted the NHS's commitment to embedding PGx into routine care, and the critical role everyone plays in making this vision a reality.UK-IPN contributed to the discussions, led by Professor Pirmohamed, with Jackie O'Brien, our Chair and Work Package 2 Lead of the CERSI programme, participating in the Q&A session. Jackie shared key challenges faced by industry, particularly around navigating complex regulatory pathways and offered potential solutions to clarify expectations and streamline engagement with the NHS.

For the UK-IPN this event reaffirms our commitment to support industry understanding of NHS requirements, foster collaboration across sectors, and advocate for clear, credible routes to PGx implementation. We believe that by addressing regulatory friction points and sharing solutions to challenges, we can accelerate the safe, effective adoption of PGx across the UK.

We look forward to continuing this dialogue and driving forward the UK's PGx agenda.
